A Note from David Guzzetta about "The Matthew Gathering":
Hello Friends of Rev. Matthew Peterson,
Many of you may already know that our beloved friend Matthew Peterson is no longer with us. He passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. We are having a Celebration of Life to honor the unique and amazing life of Matthew. We do not have contacts for all of Matthew's vast community of friends, so please pass this message to friends of his that you have contact with. Thank you.
A Memorial Service for Matthew will be held on May 30th at 2:00 pm at The Church of the Western Reserve located at 30500 Fairmount Boulevard, Cleveland, OH 44124 followed by a “Matthew Gathering” in the Firelands Room down the hall from the sanctuary. Matthew requested that we do not wear black because this is a celebration of his life.
Before he passed, Matthew communicated to us that he would like a space for his family and friends to gather and share stories about him. This “Matthew Gathering” will be led by CHEER alumni to provide a loose structure to facilitate any member of his community of friends to share a one minute story about Matthew. After the facilitated story telling, please stay for an informal gathering, where we can meet each other and perhaps share a longer version of the one minute stories. You do not need to tell a story in order to attend the gathering. All are welcome to join and simply listen.

The children’s ministry at CWR is a place where children feel loved and embraced. Steeple People provides children the opportunity to be a special part of the service but also allows for separate time to engage in fun learning with their peers. Nursery services are organized and volunteers are excited to spend time with the children each Sunday. I love the investment that CWR makes in our children through its ministry.
