Is CWR a traditional church?
Presbyterian churches have been around for centuries. But, don’t let that fool you. We may be traditional in our roots, but we are deeply engaged in addressing the opportunities and problems of the 21st century. We strive every day to be relevant to the 18 Greater Cleveland communities our members and friends represent and to the issues they face in their daily lives.
What’s your dress code?
We don’t have a dress code. On any given Sunday, you’ll see suits or dresses, neckties, jeans, khakis and in beautiful Cleveland summers, you’ll even see some shorts. God meets us where we are in life including how we choose to dress. CWR is not a judgmental church.
What is the scope of your membership?
We are big enough to undertake sizable ministries. And, we are small enough to know each other.
Do you have nursery care for small children?
Yes. We offer childcare for infants and preschoolers. We offer classes for school-age children. Some people prefer to keep babies and small children with them in our church service. That’s fine. Do what is most comfortable for you. Ultimately, we are all about children of all ages.
What will I experience in a CWR Worship Service?
We sing. We have a Bible reading. We hear a teaching about the Bible that is relevant to our lives. We pray. We experience the presence of God. Our services last about one hour. We celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord’s supper on the first Sunday of every month. Communion at Church of the Western Reserve is open to everyone.
Let’s say we’re a couple – one of us is Presbyterian and the other is of another faith? Can one or both of us come to CWR?
Yes. We definitely have interfaith families. You won’t be alone. Everyone – EVERYONE – is welcome at CWR.
Where does CWR stand on controversial issues?
We have members who reflect a wide variety of views. Our goal is to teach the Bible and God’s love, and to learn about Jesus and His teachings. We strive always to Embrace Grace, to provide a safe place for fellowship and spiritual growth regardless of where people stand on particular matters.
Should I feel guilty if I miss a Sunday Service?
Absolutely not. We have members who never miss. And, we certainly have members who will never get a perfect attendance award. We believe Sunday Service is the foundation for the church week, but there are multiple ways to engage with CWR in any given week other than on Sunday. We hope to see you often, but that’s your call.
Do I have to be a member to come to Sunday Service?
No. We hope you will become a member, but you are totally welcome to be part of our service regardless of that. When you’re ready, we’re ready.
What’s the expectation I will support CWR financially?
First and foremost, there is no specific amount of support we expect nor will you be asked to contribute a set amount. What we hope is that CWR will be an important part of your personal philanthropy. If you believe in what CWR is doing, contributing financially is one way to show that. But, there are other ways to show your support for God’s work. How you choose to support CWR is up to you.
