Bible Story Acts 2:44-47 Life Among Believers All who believed in Jesus Christ had fellowship together and had all things in common. They would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. They spent much time together worshiping God in the temple. They broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts. They praised God and there was goodwill among the people. The Lord added to their number day by day.
The early Christian church that came into existence after Jesus of Nazareth died did things very intentionally. They were grounded in a firm conviction of the truth of Jesus' teachings and a commitment to being a community of Jesus followers. They cultivated Christian virtues and honored God by blessing those around them.
We do not own everything in common as they did but we do take care of each other, as anyone has a need. I hope everyone is always on the lookout for the needs around us, and helps us find ways to meet these needs. We are not worshiping in person now, but we are still worshiping together as a community. We break bread with glad and generous hearts, and praise God for the blessings in our lives. I believe God is adding to our number day by day as people read our devotions, follow us online, watch our services, and reach out to us.
My desire is to lead everyone to believe that we belong first of all to Jesus Christ. That is how the early church understood their faith. And when we understand that first of all we belong to Jesus Christ, that shapes and orients our perspective on all things, and we live in a state of gratitude, gladness, and generosity.
