Bible Story Luke 4:16-20 Jesus read in the synagogue from the scroll of the prophet Isaiah: The Spirit of the Lord is on me. He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.
Our calling on earth is to serve those in need. May we all ask ourselves who is in need and what can we do. And let us ask God to show us the needs around us and guide us in how we respond. If the person in need were our child, what mountains would we move to be of assistance? We need the supernatural power of a parent who sees their child in need to undo systems of racism, and to create a world of justice for all people. May we want a just world for all people bad enough that we become agents of justice, reconciliation, and compassion.
