Daily Verses

Proverbs 4:1 Listen to a father's instruction so you may gain insight.

Proverbs 4:23 Above all else guard your heart for from it flows your life.

The Bible says to listen to our fathers and also to our heavenly Father God, and to Jesus and the Spirit. God calls us to listen more than we speak. To whom do you listen? Does everyone to whom you listen have the same life experiences you have? If so, seek out people who are different from you and learn from them. Jesus always gravitated to the poor. We benefit from being in relationships with and hearing the stories of those who are poor or suffering or discriminated against. It's a matter of opening our hearts to others and loving as Christ loves.

We are what we love. We become what we love. We create lives based on what we love. What do you love? Whom do you love? The Bible teaches us to love the things that God loves. Whom does God love? God loves all people, and the Bible makes clear that God is near to those who are suffering. What does God love? Justice. Righteousness. Equity. Inclusivity. Compassion. Kindness. Peacemaking. Truth. Authenticity. Faithfulness. Faith. Forgiveness. Non-judgment. Generosity. Gentleness. Self-control. Humility. Hope. Hospitality. Wisdom. Laughter. Patience. Joy. Prayer. Worship. Fellowship. Service. Rest. Sharing the Gospel.

Proverbs 4:23 is a verse worth living by.
